Conclusion:
There are little brightness variation in sample pictures due to light changes from outdoors... but sharpness can still be estimated. It is easy to see that Kenko PRO 300 2x DG is clearly better from center when full aperture is used. From border, Nikon TC20EII wins hands down. You can see from the pictures, that 2x teleconverter needs to be stopped down if good image quality is what you want. With AF-S 300/2.8 VR + TC20EII the best image quality is around f/9. Crops doesn't are from exact same place, so magnification of teleconverter's are quite hard to judge from these pictures.
Nikon's TC20EII 2x teleconverter is optically same than older TC20E model, so the optical construction is designed long before new modern VR superteles. TC14EII and TC20EII became in year 2001, so they are quite old too... Maybe Nikon should design optically new teleconverters, and forget cosmetic updates...
